So it has now started. The ESRI International User Conference 2007 is underway in San Deigo and I see the updates and coming in pretty quickly! What did the layout look like? Peter Batty has taken an awesome photo of the UC underway:
Great picture Peter, thanks for this. Always great to see Jack doing his stuff.
There are some pretty cool updates. I thought I would summarize them and provide some comments on those that are of interest, so here goes:
ArcGIS Server 9.3:
- ArcGIS Server REST And Javascript API's where announced at the UC plenary session today. So what does this involve?
At ArcGIS 9.3 you can "REST" enabled you ArcGIS Server services and you can then consume them using the Javascript API or or from other clients like Google Maps or Microsoft's Virtual Earth.
This is something I have been waiting for, for quite a while now!

- New printing functionality in ArcGIS Server 9.3
- New support for WFS along with simple KML and GML.
- Increased perfomance.
- New mobile client. Hmm I wonder what this is going to be? Anyone have any ideas? I am interested in this one as I have been developing my own client which is working pretty well now.
- New support for integration between AutoCAD with ArcGIS Server 9.3
- New support for caching on demand or caching selected areas! This sounds cool, I'm keen to start playing with this!
- New added security for web applications and services. Apparently now the ArcGIS Server Manager will have the ability to create profiles for custom users and define their roles. I think this is a great feature to be coming out of the box. Also making use of the the ArcGIS Server Manager to configure these does make life tons easier as well. Sounds like it will be a popular feature.

Wahoo, finally. I think this was a feature everyone has been wanting for ages!
